The invite read ... Les Parisiennes are happy to present Jonas G men's apparel ... with an illustration done in retro colours and fashion ... showing two men dressed very nattily ... but with bare feet and a hat .... in a kitchen !!!!! .... Our interest was piqued .... very piqued .... what could be the meaning of this fanciful illustration ? .... For the non Delhiites ... Les Parisiennes (the Parisians) ... is a sartorially famous concept store in the Shahpur Jat village complex in Delhi ... So we three set out through the narrow gullies of Shahpur Jat ( read more about this fascinating village here  ) .... who knew there resides a small world of such design and creativity ... where they create, explore, share and live a dream .... in a village full of meandering streets ... with small bistros, cafes and boutiques, which solve the snakes and ladder puzzle of what’s in and what’s out .... where this charming neighborhood has openly accepted the challenge to stylize a world of old havelis and rickety apartments ! .... We were looking for Les Parisiennes ..... a french name .... from village elders in beautiful red bandhini turbans smoking hookahs away to glory ..... who did not bat an eyelid as we gingerly asked them for directions .....  So we were directed and entered a store ...... housed in a beautiful haveli .... with a warm welcome accompanied by some authentic french food ..... for a minute it was like a culture shock!!! ....... Who says, time machines are yet to be invented? ...... You just need some chemical reaction to take place in your brain via your eyes and bazinga !!! ..... We were transported from these meandering village streets of India to France ..... eating and drinking its famed gastronomical delights ..... all in the comforts of our native land !! ..... As we observed the outstanding interiors of this old haveli built in 1930 .... surrounded by le parisien et la parisienne  ... all we could think of was .... that this world is a truly magical place ... to contain such a cocoon of one culture sheltering the butterfly of another .... Les Parisiennes is a vintage chic boudoir .... a unique concept store offering carefully selected women’s wear, kid’s wear and now men’s wear .... a fabulous range of home accessories  ...  and its very own French CafĂ©, ..... Owned by two French ladies ... Catherine Prakash and Lucie Salaun ..... the store is totally Parisian in concept .... with its muted colours of gray and cream ... laidback decor ... with black leather butterflies climbing creamy white walls .... the Rattan woven furniture .... baby piano ... bird cages ... antique patinas ........ A whiff of a Parisian world spilling out of vintage trunks and armoire .... amidst the relics of an Indian haveli where light pours in through woven rafters and the air slowly stirred by whirring long stemmed ceiling fans !!! ..... Such an exquisite marriage of cultures was probably influenced by the owners themselves who are married locally .... and it shows in their commitment towards social causes ..... The store makes it a point to act socially responsible by adopting Dhyan India’s campaign towards women empowerment .... Read on about our tryst with Jonas at Les Parisiennes :)

Jonas Grier : Jonas G Men's Apparel

We were soon introduced to the star designer .... Jonas Grier, whose fabulous range of men’s wear was being launched by the store .... A tall, fair young man with a golden beard and a handlebar mustache .... this French designer truly knew how a mustache can enhance a gentleman’s personality .... he reminded us of our famous Bollywood saying ... "Mooch nahi toh kuch nahi" (your manhood is in question if you do not have a mustache hahahaha :) .... Wonder if Jonas has come across this famous Hindi phrase .... we forgot to ask :p .... But the magnificently bearded Jonas, wearing his own creation with kolhapuri chappals ( famed Indian sandals) .... again brought us back to that very fascinating invite of his !! ... Jonas likes things different, the idea is being rightly conveyed through his beautiful flyer inspired by the 1920’s look for his garments .... and men in the kitchen ??? .... He said ....  ‘men with swimming pool , fancy cars and models in swimwear is said and done, I thought of putting them in the kitchen for a change’ .... hahaha ... he certainly has a wacky sense of humour :)

Jonas G invite

Retro men in kitchen , Jonas G men's apparel with his signature Fork bracelet peeking out  :)

Jonas had us enraptured ...  as we listened to his story behind the process ..... statements like ‘plan is, that there isn't any plan’ truly fits him .... A textile designer who believes in following his gut ... Jonas believes in starting from the end point .... followed by pulling all the strings together ... weaving his fabric story in a way which would satisfy him first and foremost ..... Alongside, he makes it a point to believe his instincts .... the picture gets clearer and much more interesting when we found out over a cup of coffee that the designer’s biggest inspiration is himself ... and that first he would want to satisfy his own self before satisfying the market ..... which is why his idea behind his creations is simple .... something that he himself would wear !! .... Check out some of his designs which he graciously modeled for us, as we wanted to see how the clothes looked on a real person :)

The collection aims to satisfy both the concept of formal and casual wear .... what you wear to your workplace can be worn casually too ..... Imagine this .... you are lucky enough to snare a "date" while facebooking or whatsapping in the middle of a boring meeting .... In Jonas G, you need not twist and twirl your brain over your outfit ....  all you gotta do is to figure out the way to get out of the boring meeting and you are good to go .... courtesy Jonas ! ..... After all, the introduction of stripes, earthen colors, metallic buttons, Chinese and straight collars with such contrasts, hues and tints is enough to make you dateworthy after office and make your peers hunt for Jonas’s ultra chic collection :) ... And the exciting part is ....  your peers would fail to copy your look since Jonas’s collection is limited and each piece is different! ..... So the shirt you would step out wearing, would be your very own unique piece !!! .... This isn't all, .... Jonas claims to be lazy, hates to iron his clothes and loves to sleep! .... Come let’s face it, we all are mostly lazy ..... we compromise with our first choice of clothes and substitute it with another just because we don’t want to iron it :p .... For all those people who think men's wear are whites, creams, and blacks with basic collar and fabric which needs ironing .... a lot of ironing, starch, and what not .... take a look at Jonas G ....  It is indeed possible to be fashionable and comfortable without much of an effort !!
Jonas’s collection has this quirky twist to some of the pieces from his collection .... inspired by night suit stripes ... rich looking Chinese collared shirts with pajama stripes and metallic buttons .... simple, elegant, edgy and comfortable .... So while you attend the boring meeting ..... adjust your chair as if you are adjusting your bed’s cushion and be comfortable in Jonas G !! ..... Because if Barney Stinson made silk suitjamas famous, Jonas is sooner gonna make shirtjamas famous!!
A textile designer by education, he has managed to add that much awaited extra dimension to our wardrobes ....  with these pieces which  are yarn dyed, made out of pure cotton and handloomed ... guaranteeing the wearer a discerning style, ..... and also allowing us to be socially responsible towards our environment !!
