There are many things that go into making a complete man .... what you wear is just one of them ... The Complete Man ... Raymond, fine fabrics since 1925 :) ... Those are the voice over lines that resonated in my head from my earliest memories of seeing the Raymond's Ad on Tv ... We were on our way to visit The Raymond Shop (TRS) at Breach Candy, Mumbai ... to see and feel their latest fabric launch for the summer of 2015 - Linen !! ... By now i hope you have read the previous post about the incredible first 55 years of Raymond .... The eighties started under the stewardship of Dr Vijaypat Singhania until 2000, when he handed over the legacy of the Indian textile giant to his son Gautam ... The JK House at Breach Candy, Mumbai is the location for The Raymond Shop and the Raymond Made to Measure floors .... Though we were prepped to have a pleasant experience, in all my life, i have never come across a company with such a big heart and hospitable warmth like Raymond !! .... And that's saying a lot !! ... Nothing had prepared me for the employees at Raymond .... Starting from the chauffeur who picked us up from the Airport ... An immaculately groomed gentleman in Raymond livery who passionately gave us a running commentary of the history of South Bombay on the way to JK House .... To team Raymond who hosted us ... To the wonderfully polite and affable floor staff .... Every person at every point of contact was suffused with pride that they not only worked for Raymond, but they were Raymond !!!! ..... Its one thing to have an efficient employee, but to have every single employee bursting with pride, with ownership, with a sense of belonging, of being family, is rare .... So so rare !! .... Aanchal and i were amazed at the level of warmth we experienced !! ... Here we share with you, our fabulous trip to The Raymond Shop, and the phenomenally cool fabrics we lusted over during our visit to give you an overview of their modern day history :)

Fabric : The ultrafine Super 250

One of the milestones of the evolving brand journey of Raymond has been the luxurious Super 250's .... the finest fabric ever made ....  from 11.6 micron wool ... which is approximately one-fiftieth the diameter of human hair !! ... This fabric is testimony to Raymond’s globally acclaimed textile manufacturing strength .... The Super 250s fabric has been regarded as a landmark achievement in the global textile industry ..... In a fiercely contested global auction, Raymond acquired a magnificent lot of ultra-fine wool ..... beating bidders from the world’s foremost fashion houses .... in order to produce this fabric ...... Raymond has specially crafted only 60 masterpieces of its Super 250s suit lengths .... making it a rare and prized possession for those desirous of the ultimate luxury ... We knew we were going to see this rarest of rare fabric and get to touch it and feel it ... We cannot express how excited we were to see the only ultrafine super fabric in the entire world !!

Fabric : Raymond Linen 2015

The Raymond Shop : Our Experience June 2015

The Raymond Shop (TRS) at Breach Candy, Mumbai is situated on the first and second floor of JK House .... The first floor, with its spacious high vaulted ceiling, houses The Raymond Shop, and the second floor is dedicated to Raymond Made to Measure .... As we stepped in through the highly polished massive glass doors, we were enveloped with all the trappings of uber cool luxury ... a controlled temperature set in an discreet ambient mode which makes you forget the season's vagaries outside, and makes you feel "arrived" !! .... The ample daylight streaming in from the outside and the in store white light immediately draws the eye to the first counter, positioned like a mid island display, starting with Raymond's latest Linen 2015 collection articles .... Within seconds, the highly trained polite staff unobtrusively takes care of your interest with an offering of a sealed mini bottle of water ... Unlike many other store experiences, what distinguishes the Raymond staff is their mild air of being at your elbow ready to help, but not really pushing to know your interest !! .... For those of you who are familiar with The Raymond Shops all over the country ... the layout is immediately identifiable ... Therefore frequent Raymond shoppers would know exactly where to go pick up their favourite brands !! ... There are many cardboard life size illustrations of their latest fabric, ready to wear, accessories and campaigns visually set to catch the eye all around the store .... The far racks have clever highlighted lighting to bring attention to the goods on display .... along with full and half size mirrors to appreciate how a garment might look on the shopper .... We as confirmed shopaholics of course made a bee line to their small goods counter, situated in most TRS stores, near to the billing desk .... to check out the latest accessories from the brand .... mainly to stock up for the approaching Father's Day pressies :) .... Here in this jewel of Raymond's crown of The Raymond Shops .... the most fascinating display is certainly the Chairman's collection .... displayed at the heart of the shop .... all leather and luxeness !! ..... We tenderly touch the fabled Ultrafine Super 250 wool swatches and it feels like silk butter for want of a better word !! .... THIS is the ultimate luxury experience for any fashion blogger .... to be able to touch this rare and finest fabric yet known to mankind ... Imagine, only 60 suit lengths are available in the entire world, the entire universe, the entire known cosmos !!!!! .... Its a moment for reverence and awe for us !! .... I cannot drag myself away without reading and clicking through the entire box of Superfine Wool swatches ... as Aanchal cannot drag herself away from the eye poppingly candy coloured linen fabric lengths .... that we get to choose from ... to design our own ensembles in collaboration with Suket Dhir, the designer who created Raymond's Linen 2015 collection .... about which you will read in our next post :)
