The first time i stepped into L'Opera was due to the colourful Macarons on display .... I do not have a sweet tooth ... or to be more accurate .... i DENY i have a sweet tooth .... a delusion i foster so that i can refuse dessert on the grounds that sugary stuff is not my thing .... a very important facade to maintain since in our country .... nothing is a more auspicious tradition than "mooh meetha karna" (making the mouth sweet) ... that ubiquitous act of feeding someone something sweet to celebrate or wish good luck .... So you can imagine, that an Indian ends up consuming vast amounts of sugar for any good happenings in life .... and we are a race that celebrate more days in the calendar than any other country .... not to mention our vast way of celebrating marriages, birthdays, anniversaries and other chronological milestones .... presenting "mithai"(sweets) is a very revered art of etiquette on part of Indian guests and feeding "mithai" is an equally revered etiquette on part of Indian hosts .... So you see .... it is necessary for an Indian girl to make it known that she does not enjoy sweets ... if she wants to escape all those calories dressed in love and affection .... hahahaha !! .... However, no Indian worth their heritage would miss a chance to taste the sugar confections around the world ... given a chance ! .... L'Opera India is a French patisserie and boulangerie  .... meaning they serve pastries, sweets and various other type of baked goods ..... They are of course most famous in Delhi for their colorful Macarons .... those sinful delights with a soft moist filling sandwiched between two firm crusts .. you bite into crispness and your teeth sinks into utter softness .... and by the time you chew .... there are a million flavours dancing on your tongue ... exquisite !!!! .... When L'Opera India invited us for a food tasting recently ... we practically starved ourselves of unessential calories to prepare for the evening ..... I have tasted Macarons from Laduree, the famed parisian patisserie at Harrods London, Paris and Milan .... and also from Pierre Herme, Paris - the famed "Picasso of Pastry" .... Delhi has been missing out on this French perfection for a long time until L'Opera was founded by Laurent Samandari (more about him later) .... So off we went for an evening of tasting (in other words a massive bout of gluttony heheh) ... Read on to see what we saw and most obviously loved ;)

The invite welcomed us to celebrate "the successful completion of two years for Lisaa School of Design in India on 1st of May, 2013, at The Courtyard, The Crescent at the Qutub" ......  It further read ... "The event will showcase reputed designer Nitin Bal Chauhan’s label Bhootsavaar’s latest collection ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ who will also be guiding Lisaa students in gaining a broader perspective on the integration of various fields of design. Lisaa 2.0 is also an exhibition of Nitin’s work with the students as they explore the various facades of design found in our everyday lives. Through a range of creative workshops, Nitin will be guiding Lisaa students in gaining a broader perspective on the integration of various fields of design. This and more will be displayed as the numerous design fields of fashion, interiors and graphics come together with Nitin to share the same space for the night." ..... Well i was quite curious .... first because this was the first time we were invited by a Design School .... second Lisaa School Of Design, though 2 years old in India has a 30 year old legacy from France ... third Nitin Bal Chauhan (NBC) is not just a fashion designer, but A Designer dabbling in the myriad creative fields of Design from Millinery to Accessories to Product to Industrial to Film making ( yes he is into all the big 3 F's - Fashion, Film, Fine Arts) ... and the fourth most important reason, with 2 years under their belt, the first batch from Lisaa has been well marinated in design aesthetics and commercial training to put their first foot forward into the business of Fashion .... yes make no mistake dear readers .... Fashion is a business ... a most cut throat business .... if you are not creative enough to make money, all your design creativity is for nought really ... and that is the whole truth !! ... Initially i thought of just writing about the collection presented, but then i realized that this post will most probably be read by the students, and they deserve the unvarnished truth from a fashion media perspective as they will soon be subjected to opinions of the fashion press in the near future which will not necessarily be kind .... so here goes :)
